Penny Lane weaves these stories together with her own diary entries to present the unique yet unified experiences of these women. Of note, this documentary was made about 10 years ago, so please forgive some of the statistics which are slightly out-dated.

This film provides a funny and sentimental portrayal of a young woman’s path to making a decision when faced with an unintended pregnancy. And along the way it provides a decent representation of what many abortion clinics look like (it’s Hollywood though so keep that in mind).

The Traveling Abortion Doctor

This short documentary follows Dr. Shannon Carr as she travels from her home in New Mexico to provide abortion care in Dallas, Texas after HB2 was enacted, decreasing the number of abortion clinics in Texas to 7 (HB2 has since been overturned by the Supreme Court, but many clinics have been unable to reopen). Dr. Carr shares the challenges of her job and providing care in such a hostile environment.

Told from the perspective of physicians, clinic owners, and staff of the abortion clinics who are threatened to close, this documentary portrays the impacts of TRAP laws, which began passing in mass around 2011. This documentary, from filmmakers Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady, depicts a corner in Fort Pierce, Florida with a CPC located on one side of the street and an abortion clinic on the other. While the abortion clinic provides abortion care and other reproductive health services, the CPC exclusively functions to convince people considering abortion to continue their pregnancies. This film reveals the inner workings of both offices, documenting anti-choice counselors at the CPC giving pregnant people misinformation and pro-choice counselors at the abortion clinic providing options counseling to patients.
